KiiiKiii — GROUNDWORK

2024년 11월, Team Lorem은 스타쉽 엔터테인먼트 걸그룹 KiiiKiii(키키)의 데뷔 EP [UNCUT GEM] 수록곡 'GROUNDWORK' 뮤직비디오 촬영을 위한 대형 조형물 제작을 진행했다. '가공되지 않은 원석'을 뜻하는 앨범 타이틀은 다섯 멤버가 완성된 결과물이 아닌 날 것의 가능성 그 자체로 처음 세상 앞에 서겠다는 선언이기도 하다. 'GROUNDWORK'는 그 중에서도 KiiiKiii만의 장난스럽고 위트 있는 자기소개를 담은 트랙으로, Team Lorem은 이 세계관에 어울리는 시각 언어를 조형물로 구현하는 역할을 맡았다. 정제되고 통일된 미감보다는, 이질적인 형태와 재료가 공존하는 아방가르드한 오브제 조형물이 출발점이 되었다.

조형물은 세 가지 핵심 요소로 구성된다. 유기적인 잎사귀 형태의 초록 베이스 오브제, 식물과 장식 문양에서 착안한 패턴이 새겨진 큐브형 오브제, 그리고 전체 구성의 정점을 이루는 실버 메탈릭 대형 병 형태의 주조형물이다. 흰 구체 오브제가 층위 사이를 연결하며 전체 실루엣을 완성했고, 약 3m에 달하는 높이는 야외 옥상 공간에서도 충분한 존재감을 가질 수 있도록 설계된 스케일이다.

모든 형태는 3D 모델링을 기반으로 스티로폼을 커팅한 후 수작업으로 조형했다. 초록 베이스 오브제는 조형된 스티로폼 위에 패브릭 소재를 층층이 접착하여 볼록하고 유기적인 볼륨감을 구현했으며, 도색 단계에서 황록에서 올리브로 이어지는 그라데이션을 적용해 식물적 생동감을 더했다. 큐브 오브제는 시멘트계 코팅으로 표면 질감을 살린 뒤, 식물성 모티프와 전통 장식 문양에서 영감을 받은 패턴을 각 면에 핸드 페인팅으로 표현했다.

주조형물인 병 형태의 오브제는 뚜렷한 굴곡과 부조적 릴리프가 특징으로, 스티로폼 조형 후 코팅 마감을 거쳐 실버 계열 신나 채색으로 메탈릭 질감을 완성했다. 총 제작 기간은 약 10일. 복수의 팀원이 각 파트를 병렬로 분담하는 방식으로 생산 속도를 확보했고, 현장 납기에 맞춰 조형물 전체를 완성했다.

제작이 완료된 각 파트는 현장으로 이송된 후 옥상에 조립, 설치되었다. 이질적인 소재와 형태들이 층위를 이루며 하나의 풍경을 완성하는 방식은, 원석이 지닌 가공 이전의 가능성을 조형의 언어로 번역한 것이다. 'GROUNDWORK'라는 곡이 그러하듯, 이 조형물도 아직 다듬어지지 않은 것들이 모여 이루는 시작점의 에너지를 담고 있다.

In November 2024, Team Lorem fabricated a large-scale sculptural installation for the music video of 'GROUNDWORK,' a track from KiiiKiii's debut EP [UNCUT GEM] under Starship Entertainment. The album title — meaning "uncut gemstone" — encapsulates the group's declaration: to present themselves not as a polished product, but as raw potential. 'GROUNDWORK' is the track that carries this spirit most directly, described as KiiiKiii's playful and witty self-introduction. Team Lorem was brought in to translate this world into physical form. Rather than a single refined aesthetic, the direction called for an avant-garde sculptural composition where mismatched forms and materials could coexist — unforced, eclectic, and entirely their own.

The installation is structured around three primary elements: an organic green leaf-shaped base, a series of cube sculptures with hand-decorated surface motifs drawn from botanical and traditional ornamental patterns, and a large silver metallic bottle-form that crowns the entire composition. White spherical forms bridge the layers in between, completing the silhouette. The total height reaches approximately three meters — a scale planned specifically to hold visual weight against an open rooftop skyline.

All forms were first modeled in 3D, then carved from styrofoam before being finished by hand. The green base was built up by layering fabric over the carved styrofoam, creating an organic, cushion-like volume. A gradient from yellow-green through to olive was applied during painting to give the form a sense of botanical vitality. The cube sculptures received a cement-textured surface coating, after which botanical and decorative motifs were freely applied in freehand brushwork across each face.

The central bottle sculpture — defined by its pronounced relief and curved form — was built from styrofoam, coated for structural finish, then spray-painted with a silver metallic medium to achieve a monumental quality. The total production across all sculptural components was completed in approximately ten days, with multiple team members working in parallel across each element to keep pace with the delivery schedule.

Once fabricated, all components were transported to the filming location and assembled on site. The layered arrangement of clashing scales, materials, and textures mirrors the energy of 'GROUNDWORK' itself — a collection of raw, unpolished things that come together to form something whole. Like the uncut gem the album takes its name from, this sculpture holds the energy of the moment just before refinement: dense with possibility, and entirely itself.
