Harim MISSING YONGGARI POP-UP

1999년 출시된 용가리치킨이 25주년을 맞아 성수동 한복판에 다시 모습을 드러냈다. 하림이 기획한 ‘용가리가 사라졌다’ 팝업스토어는 추억 속으로 사라진 용가리를 2030세대가 직접 찾아 나서는 콘셉트로, 브랜드의 역사와 감성을 공간 안에 풀어내는 체험형 이벤트였다. Team Lorem은 이 팝업의 상징적 중심이 되는 공룡알 모양 대형 조형물 제작과 식물 조경, 소형 피규어 제작을 담당하며 공간의 핵심 무드를 구성했다.

작업의 출발점은 하나의 이미지였다 — 금방이라도 무언가가 깨어나올 것 같은 거대한 알. 용가리치킨이 공룡 모양이라는 제품의 정체성에 착안해, 부화 직전의 순간을 조형으로 옮겼다. 위쪽이 불규칙하게 갈라진 형태로 설계해 내부가 들여다보이도록 했고, 관람객이 알 안쪽에 들어가 앉을 수 있는 구조로 만들어 자연스럽게 포토존의 기능을 갖추게 했다. 팝업스토어 조형물로서 시각적 임팩트와 체험성을 동시에 확보한 설계였다.

제작은 스튜디오에서 진행했다. 외부 표면은 텍스처 도료로 마감해 알껍질 특유의 거칠고 광물질적인 질감을 살렸고, 내부는 따뜻한 노란색으로 채색해 노른자 빛이 새어 나오는 듯한 분위기를 연출했다. 바닥 안쪽에는 LED 조명을 매립 시공해 어두운 실내에서도 오브제 자체가 빛을 발산하도록 했다. 소형 피규어는 색상을 달리해 시리즈감을 부여하고 신나 채색 방식으로 마감, 팝업 공간 곳곳에 배치될 오브제로 제작했다.

완성된 조형물은 기포지로 감싸 트럭에 실어 성수동 현장까지 운반했다. 대형 오브제 특성상 운반 자체가 하나의 공정이었고, 현장 반입과 정위치 배치까지 직접 진행했다. 설치 과정에서는 고사리류 식물, 덩굴 가지, 화산석을 조형물 주변에 유기적으로 배치해 공룡이 살던 원시적 자연 환경을 재현했다. 식물 조경과 오브제가 하나의 지형처럼 어우러지며, 단순한 포토존이 아닌 몰입형 공간 조형으로 완성되었다.

Team Lorem은 이 프로젝트에서 오브제 디자인 기획부터 모형 제작, 도색, LED 조명 시공, 소형 피규어 제작, 식물 조경 배치, 현장 설치에 이르는 전 과정을 담당했다. 상업 공간 안에서 브랜드의 서사를 물성으로 번역하는 작업 — 이 대형 오브제 설치는 조형물이 공간의 분위기를 어떻게 결정짓는지를 구체적으로 보여준 프로젝트였다.

In 2024, South Korean food company Harim marked the 25th anniversary of its flagship product, Yonggari Chicken, with an immersive pop-up experience in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong. Titled Missing Yonggari, the event invited the MZ generation on a nostalgic search for a character they had grown up with — turning a brand milestone into a fully staged spatial narrative. Team Lorem was commissioned to design and fabricate the centerpiece of the pop-up: a monumental cracked dinosaur egg sculpture, along with botanical landscaping and a series of hand-painted figurines.

The concept began with the product’s own identity. Yonggari Chicken is shaped like a small dinosaur, and the pop-up narrative centered on a creature that had mysteriously disappeared. Taking that premise into physical form, Team Lorem designed a large-scale egg split open at the top — a moment of hatching, arrested in sculpture. The open cavity was sized to allow visitors to sit inside and photograph themselves, giving the piece dual function as both a statement art object and an interactive photo zone. Scale and tactility were equally considered from the outset.

Fabrication took place in the studio. The exterior surface was built up with textured paint to replicate the coarse, mineral quality of an eggshell, while the interior was finished in warm yellow — evoking the glow of a yolk lit from within. LED strip lighting was recessed along the base of the interior cavity, ensuring the piece radiated its own light within the dim, industrial atmosphere of the venue. The small figurines were painted individually in distinct colorways using lacquer-based pigments, then distributed across the pop-up space as ambient sculptural objects.

Once complete, the sculpture was wrapped and loaded onto a truck for transport to the Seongsu-dong site — a process that required careful coordination given the piece’s scale. On-site installation involved composing the landscape around the sculpture: ferns, dried vine branches, and volcanic rock were arranged to suggest a primordial environment. The botanical elements were positioned not as decoration but as terrain, merging with the sculpture to form a coherent scene rather than a standalone prop.

Team Lorem’s scope on this project covered the full production pipeline — from object design and model fabrication to surface finishing, LED lighting installation, figurine production, botanical arrangement, and final on-site placement. The project is an example of how brand storytelling can be grounded in material form: a bespoke sculpture that visitors don’t simply observe, but step inside.
